Miso Honey Sesame Ginger Dressing

Print Recipe Jump to Recipe

We try to eat salads regularly. It’s a great way to take in lots of vegetables and leafy greens. Plus, when you are a parent of a busy household you often need quick meals you can turn to on busy nights. “Let’s just have salads” is something Greg and I say often. It’s a lot healthier than fixing nachos (although we’ve done that too).

Miso Honey Sesame Ginger Salad Dressing

Several years ago we discovered a Wegmans ginger sesame salad dressing we loved and became slightly obsessed with it. The trouble is, we don’t live near a Wegmans. Aaah! Every time we visited family in New York we would bring a few bottles home, but invariably we would run out. I knew I would eventually have to learn how to make Sesame Ginger Salad Dressing.

And so….

I finally put in some time and came up with a Miso Honey Sesame Ginger dressing that we love! Better still, it only takes 5-10 minutes to prepare and it’s probably much healthier than store bought dressing because there’s no need for all the extra preservatives most bottled dressings use to increase shelf life. #winning!

When starting my quest to make a sesame ginger dressing we loved I remembered that one of my first cookbooks was the Moosewood Restaurant Daily Special Cookbook which contained lots of soup and salad recipes. This seemed like a good beginning and sure enough it contained a Ginger Miso Dressing that was a good starting point.

What the heck is Miso?

Miso is a fermented paste made from soybeans and a grain and is filled with probiotics. In fact, it’s one of those health superfoods you should get to know. We order our Miso from the South River Miso Company.

Pulling from the Moosewood Recipe and the ingredients from the Wegmans Sesame Ginger dressing got me off to a great start. And with a little experimentation I was finally able to concoct what we think is a winning dressing! We always knew we wanted the ginger and sesame flavors because we loved the Wegmans Ginger Sesame Salad dressing so much. The honey and pineapple juice really add a nice sweet element to the dressing and then the inclusion of a super food like Miso really makes this Miso Honey Sesame Ginger Salad dressing a star!

Never before had pineapple in a salad dressing, but I absolutly love the idea. I’m sure the natural sweetness of the fruit helps to reduce the quantity of sugars used. Brilliant!
