This Easy Mango Salsa recipe is the perfect festive recipe for holidays and celebrations. We make it all the time, but it’s especially great for festive events like Cinco De Mayo and the 4th of July. The recipe itself is super easy and includes mangos, diced red pepper, jalapenos, lime juice, cilantro, a small amount of shallot and salt and pepper. So if you’re looking for a festive salsa to serve as the perfect appetizer at your next party then look no further! You will not be disappointed! We also love it as a topping for our tilapia fish tacos.
What defines a salsa
According to the Association for dresses and sauces — before today, I didn’t know there was such an organization! — salsa translates literally as “sauce”, but can take on a number of forms. Typical salsa, as thought of by most Americans, is made with with tomatoes, onions and chiles.
Other Types of Salsa
- Salsa cruda – features fresh uncooked ingredients, the main ones being tomatoes, onions, chiles, and cilantro.
- Salsa fresca -The typical salsa most Americans refer to with fresh ingredients of tomatoes, chiles and onions.
- Salsa rojo – translates to red sauce which comes from a tomato base.
- Salsa verde – “green sauce” which typically comes from a base of tomatillos.
The above list encompasses what are thought of as traditional salsas, but the varieties of salsa that exist are as wide as the day is long. Take, for example, this salsa glossary from The Nibble which includes everything from Adobo to Peach Salsa to your more traditional Tomato Salsa.
